Luke Jensen was a young boy who was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2007, a few weeks before his seventh birthday. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatment, along with two bone marrow transplants, before losing his battle to cancer in May 2010.
Before his illness, Luke attended King’s Way Christian Schools, next door to where Clark County is completing construction on Luke Jensen Sports Park, a $9.1 million multipurpose facility
with synthetic and natural grass fields for baseball, soccer and other sports.
On June 16, Clark County and Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation will dedicate the sports park bearing Luke’s name. A bronze plaque will be unveiled offering an inspirational message written by Luke’s family to honor their son, as well as all those who have faced cancer with courage and hope.
After the dedication, the championship game for the Salmon Creek Little League will commence. The day’s final event will be a celebrity kickball game featuring teams captained by Clark County Commissioner Steve Stuart and Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt. The game will raise money for Dream Big Community Center.
